Keepsake gifts for Christmas

On getting gifts this holiday season, they say it’s the thought that counts. I agree. It doesn’t have to be expensive for me to appreciate a present. Memories matter to me the most, so I try to search for wonderful keepsake gift ideas for the people I love. Which reminds me of the presents Caleb got from his Grandma for his birthday and Christmas. She gave him toys and clothes but I love the quilts she sewed herself for Caleb the most. It's a labor of love and I'm sure Caleb will appreciate them when he's old enough to understand.

We're moving...

...to Montana. Brrrrrr!!!

Jeff got a job in Helena, the capital city of the state. I'm not sure what to think about the place. One thing I know is it's going to be cold and it gets snowed a lot. I've read it can get really pretty in the summer time which does not last very long, lol!

However, I'm actually pretty excited about the beautiful scenery in Montana. I hope we could visit the picturesque parts of the state when the weather permits. I'm sure this move is going to be an adventure for us.

This tropical girl would brave the winter climate in the northwestern part of the country. Woohoo!!! That's the spirit, lol!

Thoughts on sofas.

When I saw this beautiful sectional sofa los angeles, I was reminded of my wish to update my living room couch. I love sectionals especially if you have a huge room in your house, it can definitely add class and elegance to your living room. I was thinking of getting a lighter color this time. Probably a tan, mocha, beige or ecru. Yeah, I like warm colors. However, I think I’ll have to wait until my son would be old enough to understand that couches are for sitting and lounging and not a black board, lol!

Just a thought...

There are times when starting up a small business comes to mind. But of course, it’s not that easy to realize it, especially with today’s economy. However, a restaurant business in the Philippines probably would be a great idea. As what most people say, everybody needs to eat. So you definitely have a feasible market in a restaurant business. But I think looking for a location site, acquiring restaurant equipment, hiring trustworthy people, and basically just securing the needed capital for your business are the most difficult part. That's why even if there are a lot of people who much prefer to be their own boss, working for somebody else might be the only possible option out there.

Sound trip.

There are times that I find myself sound-tripping. Because I’m a mom of an almost 1-year old active baby, I hardly have time to do things for myself really. But I sometimes indulge myself into listening to some cool songs while I’m on the computer. My laptop has built-in speakers so obviously I don’t need to use pc speakers. I wish I could figure out how to set up my Ipod to connect to our entertain center speakers. It will be nice to listen to some Christmas songs to have that holiday spirit in the house.

Thanksgiving 2011.

We celebrated this year's Thanksgiving at my sister's place in Illinois. I think it's been 2 years since the last time we were there. However, she visits me on few occasions this year. I love the food she prepared.

We did Black Friday shopping as well. We enjoyed it. We don't shop together very often so we miss bonding together through shopping. It's my first time to shop on Black Friday. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We did not sleep but it was all worth it. We got great deals. It was great!

A possible move to the North

We might be moving to the northernmost part of the country before the year ends. I know. I know. This tropical girl will soon be braving the bitter cold winter that I have not ever experienced in my whole life. Well, depending on hubby’s job interview results. I am excited at the same time a little apprehensive with the extreme climate difference but I think I’ll survive, lol! We’ll be closer to Canada which I’ve always wanted to visit. I wonder if there will be good Calgary apartments in the area. I have friends to meet there if ever we decide to go. For sure, it'll be a good thing to find out before we start any of our travel escapades in the future.

On a different note, I would just like to say Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao for his recent boxing triumph. The fight was in Nevada. It made me think if we move, we may be able to watch his future fights live, I mean who knows, right? Though I personally think it might not be worth the travel expenses not to mention the price of the ticket, but like I've said, who knows? We might win the lottery or something, lol! Anyway, now I'm rambling! Have a great Monday, everyone!

Not just your ordinary day.

I guess I'm one of the few lucky wives who get white roses on birthdays, anniversaries or even no special occasion at all. I distinctly remember when I was on the 1st trimester of my pregnancy, it was such a miserable experience for me. I couldn't eat though I get hungry all the time. I was super nauseous, dizzy and sick. But hubby still has to go to work so I was kind of feeling sad and depressed. Then just one day, he surprised me with a flower delivery with a special note that says "You're not alone." Wow, that melts my heart! Hubby is just one of a kind. Truly, I feel special and blessed to have married such a wonderful man.

Home Sick

Guest post from: Mohamed Simon

I looked into directv medford on my computer to see what was available, and I'm so glad I did. I came down with a terrible cold and am nursing myself back to health in front of the tv! There is nothing worse than being sick in my opinion. I swear, I almost have an emotional breakdown every time because I get so tired of feeling so terrible! I've been doing everything I'm supposed to. Lots of vitamin C, and juice, and trying to rest. But, sometimes I feel so terrible it keeps me from being able to sleep. That is the absolute worst! The ONLY thing (and I mean the ONLY thing) that makes staying home sick half way decent is being able to watch some great tv! I've been re watching episodes of the Wire, which you've probably heard me go on about before. Best. Show. Ever. The writing. The character development. The insights into the complexities of the problems.

Indoors Girl

I appreciate the guest post, Jewel Rodgers.

Last night I was at a bar on the East Side of the city. I’ve made some new friends from the church I attend, and they’re what I like to call “hipsters.” They always know the places to be and look as though they just stepped out of an Urban Outfitters catalog. I’ve accepted the fact that I don’t exactly fit in with this crowd, but I like to think that they enjoy the contrast I offer. Last night everyone was talking about an upcoming music festival, which I was planning to attend, when they mentioned tents. Yes, tents. I hesitated at first and then thought it would be best to get it out in the open, I’m an indoors girl. I don’t go anywhere that doesn’t give me access to a microwave, blowdryer, EXPERTsatellite … The one and only time I camped was at a birthday party in the 4th grade. It lasted for all of an hour when I decided to forge though the darkness and walk four houses down so that I could sleep in my own bed. If this music festival camping is some sort of initiation, I’ve already failed. And I’m completely fine with that.

Cute uniforms do great wonders.

I know I've been blogging a lot about how I love to go back to school and take up a Nursing program. I'm aware that Nursing is not for everyone. Not just because the job is tough and demanding but it's a challenge getting into the program in the first place. One will face extreme competition since many would like to apply but only a few slots are available. So I know I'll be up for quite a difficult task ahead of me. There are many things to like about this program. This might come across as being shallow but honestly one of the little things I love about being a nurse is the uniform, lol!

I can already imagine myself wearing hot pink scrubs at work, lol! I've always been a girly girl and I think hot pink scrubs would be perfect for a tough hospital day. Maybe it's just me, but whatever, I find it too cute! I have told my sister who works in a dental office to take a look at the cute and finest medical uniforms available at http://www.blueskyscrubs.com. Not only that they don't look boring, they are of great quality at such an affordable price. I'd definitely buy one for myself here when it's time for me to wear one. I highly recommend it to everyone in the health care field.

Future spendings.

I wonder how much sony lcd tvs do cost now? Just curious 'coz I've wanted to get a flat screen tv but since we still have an old Sony Wega that still works, I guess we'd be stuck with that for now, lol! Unless flat screens would dip to an all time low since holidays are coming. Not a priority at all, but window shopping won't hurt. I'm actually focused on getting presents for the baby, family, relatives and friends. Our anniversary is in 4 days, then little guys' 1st birthday is coming, then Christmas so we're anticipating to spend more in the next couple of months.

I've made up my mind.

I don’t know what has gotten into me lately, but I’ve never felt so interested to go back to school as I do now. I can’t believe I am seriously considering taking a Nursing program. I mean I’ve always thought of Nursing as a very rigorous program. Not to mention the job is demanding and full of all kinds of pressure. I have a sister who just finished a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and I saw how difficult it had been for her especially the clinical duties, though she managed to made it all throughout. But now I have this strong urge to get on a nursing program. I must admit the great pay for nurses is a huge motivational factor. But hubby was apprehensive that I may not be happy with the job no matter how great the pay is. That’s also a concern of mine actually. I have been reading a lot of things about Nursing and have talked to real nurses that I personally know of to help condition my mind of what to expect. I have not made up my mind yet but one thing is for sure I want to go back to school soon. On a different note, I’m sure technical writers out there have not had a problem getting Technical Writer Jobs. I seem to have seen a lot of job openings on this nature so good luck to those who were looking.

Good deals on video games

Christmas is just around the corner. I am excited to buy Christmas gifts for my loved ones. As a matter of fact, I have already bought 6 toys out of the 12 that I wanted to get my little guy for Christmas. Talking about getting excited, lol! I have also started making a list of the gifts that I would get for hubby and our respective families. I’m pretty sure xbox games would be a hit this Christmas. They’re probably on sale or something. Too bad we only own a WII and I don’t know anyone that has an XBOX. Anyway, I’m hoping I could find some good deals with WII games as well. It’s a perfect gift idea for everyone.

Point and shoot.

I had been looking for a good point and shoot among the hundreds of digital cameras out there. We own a Canon Powershot ultra zoom camera for 6 years now. It's been working great. As a matter of fact, I find it so reliable and have been using it frequently. But I wanted to have an alternative camera. Something handy, compact, sleek and stylish, user friendly and most especially loaded with features and excellent photo quality.

I don't limit myself with Canons, though I find them the superior brand as compared with its famous competitors in the market. But I'm open with other brands as well. However, after quite a great amount of searching, I find myself still wanting a Canon, lol! To make the long story short, I now own a Canon Powershot Elph 100. Thanks to my generous friends, they gave me one as a gift for my birthday.

I so love the color! I know this is a gift but I personally chose the style and color, lol! So much for the element of surprise huh! But again, I am so grateful to my friends who made my small wish come true. I love how lightweight and chic it is. I have been using it with my 10 month old son as my subject, and I can't stop loving this thing. It's so cool and take excellent pictures. Now I can capture every little cute thing my baby does. Love it!

Personalized stamps.

I used to collect stationeries when I was younger. Too bad some of them got damaged by typhoon, and some I don’t even recall where I put it last, lol! I mean we moved several times and it’s just hard to keep up sometimes with your stuff. I have a few that I brought with me when I migrated here. I found out that you can have Personalized Stamps on your personal stationeries, books or envelopes. That is cool! It’s a great way to express your style. Has anyone done this yet?

Is online learning worth it?

At times, I find myself wanting to go back to school and get another degree. For me, learning does not stop after I graduated college. It is a continuous process and I believe the more educated you are, the more wonderful opportunities come your way. The best thing about the current modern times, we now have the option to study online. There are hundreds of reputable online school out there so it really is a daunting task finding one that suits one's lifestyle and budget. For one, Walden University's online degree programs have potentials in giving the right education to anyone who wants it.

I often ask myself if there was a chance to study again, what course would it be? Well, the field of healthcare seems to hold its ground during recession and it actually continues to grow in this troubled economy. So I guess I wanted to have a career in healthcare. WaldenU.edu has a great B.S. program in Healthcare Management. And it's something that I'd like to take a look into.

How about you, if you'd be given a chance to go to school, what would you like to enroll in? Have you considered taking up classes online? If still unsure, you might want to research some more and learn about Walden. They might be able to help you decide where to invest your time, effort and money as far as online schooling is concerned.

Never been easier to keep in touch.

I knew when I’ve decided to migrate in the U.S., that I’d be away from my family in the Philippines. It’s quite tough but our ever-evolving technology has helped me in some ways to bridge the gap and somehow still keep in touch with them as often as possible. Skype, MSN and Yahoo Messenger have been proven to be effective in making audio conference calls online. Now, with friend’s chat gaining in popularity on Facebook, I was not surprised when they too had launched their own video calling thing. I have yet to try it but I’m pretty sure in time, it will be a hit to Facebook addicts out there, lol!

Outdated.

I am not ashamed to admit that I don’t keep up with the latest gadgets and technology out there. I do own an Ipod Touch (16gb), HP laptop (4gb) and a Nintendo DS Lite, all were birthday gifts from my dearest hubby. But that’s about it! My cell phone is not a Smart phone, it’s actually just a prepaid Nokia C3 that I bought at Walmart, lol! But I don’t care, because it still serves the purpose. Which in my case, for travel purposes only. It will be my birthday next month and Jeff was already asking what would I want to get for my birthday. I would have said a Galaxy Tablet PC would be nice, but the truth is I’m not really sure what to do with it, lol! I know it fits somewhere in between the realm of smartphones and PCs, both I don’t really need. But I love to read though so I was thinking a good E-book reader would be great. Kindle readers with 3G and Wi-Fi are now actually available at reasonable prices so I know that’s something to consider. Although I still prefer to read real books for I think they are more eye-friendly but we’ll see.

If I could have done one thing differently.

I wish I had taken better care of my eyes when I was younger. I’ve always loved to read ever since I was young. I didn’t realize that I was actually doing damage with my eyes by not taking proper measures while reading. I used to read in a very dim light. I just didn’t know any better. Then I guess I have waited too long before I started wearing correctional glasses. I just suffered my way through school until I was already working. By then, I think it was already too late. I am near-sighted and I wear prescription glasses right now but at least I still don’t need to use reading glasses whenever I read. Both Jeff and I have bad eyes so I worry for our baby. I hope this isn't genetic, otherwise the risk for him to have bad eyes is high.

My hair styling routine.

I have always been plain and simple. I only wear make-up on special occasions. I don't do extra work with my hair on a regular basis. I like it that way. Low maintenance so to speak, lol!

However, a week before my baby's church baptism, I thought of getting a hair cut and having my hair colored. I always go to this no-frills hair salon in town because the hairdresser is good. Most salons that I've gone to were not really used to handling Asian thick, black hair so I always end up spending more but feeling unhappy and dissatisfied after every haircut session. So I just keep on coming back to this hairdresser in town and always walk out of the place feeling like it's a different me each time, lol! If you know what I mean, hehe!

But anyway, so after this latest haircut (which I really love) I thought of indulging myself into a few vanity items that would somehow maintain the "fresh out of the salon" look!

Before, I usually just let my hair air-dry. I think it's simpler that way. I was also dead-set against using hair straighteners for I have heard too much heat can damage hair. But then, I have naturally wavy hair so it can be challenging at times to style it. So I thought I must give hair styling tools a try. I researched on what great products to use to help minimize hair damage despite using these tools. I hate to admit it but it sure does make a lot of difference.

I put 2-3 pumps of Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide on my towel-dried hair before I blow dry it. This helps protect the hair from the blow dryer heat. Once completely dry, I section my hair into 3 parts. I find it easier to iron that way if I do small portions of hair at a time. Then I spray a little bit of Nexxus Pro-mend Heat Protexx on every section. It's just basically another heat protector before ironing. As for my iron, I use Remington Wet2Straight. This thing emits a vapor mist that would dry the hair at the same time ironing it straight, that way there's really no need for me to blow dry it completely before straightening it. But I have not used that feature yet. I prefer to have it completely blow dried before ironing. It's less damaging that way, I guess, lol! Then once I achieve that perfect straight hair look, I then finish it up with Chi Silk Infusion. It tends to get greasy so I just normally put a little bit on the ends to get rid of the little frizz. It does give the hair a shiny, healthier look so I love this product as well. I have not used the Straight Sexy Hair product yet. It seems to have the same purpose as the other ones. I don't know why I bought it, probably I was too obsessed with getting my hair straight, lol! But anyway, yep, that's how I style my hair these days. I'd like to point it out that I don't do this as my daily routine though. I don't have that much time to play with my hair, lol! It's just too time-consuming. Just occasionally when I wanted to look a little bit presentable, I go through an extra mile in styling my hair.

Looking forward to studying abroad

Guest post written by Margie Wilson

I think that one of those things that you just really miss out on if you don't do in college is studying abroad. My older sister never studied abroad and I think that she really regrets doing that now. She's been on trips to Europe and things like that since then, but I think that would be a big difference between actually living in that place and really getting involved in the culture. I'm going to be studying abroad next semester and can't wait for it!

I think that one of the things that I'm going to do this semester is look up all types of things for me to do while I'm in Italy next semester. I've never been and there is just so much history you can go and see! I've already started looking with my wireless internet Baltimore to get some great ideas.

I know that I'm going to be eating so much gelato. So one of the things that I'm going to learn first in Italian is how to order the frozen treat.

Being Sheltered.

The article written by Alonso Kramer

Sometimes I think growing up in a small town really kept me sheltered from the outside world and I feel like if I would have grown up in a bigger city that I might have more common sense about the world around me and how people act. For instance, I never really thought about locking my doors until I moved to the city because growing up we didn’t even lock our doors when we were going out of town for a long period of time. Basically, I feel like a lot of people could take advantage of me because I am naïve in a lot of ways. Recently, a fiend of mine sent me TexasElectricityProviders.com Now I feel like I am at least not going to be taken advantage of by my energy provider. My only worry now is remembering to lock my doors when I leave the house and trying not leave my car unlocked at night. Hopefully, I can start adjusting myself to the city life and who knows maybe one day I’ll be street smart.

Decorating challenge

We finally have a venue for my baby’s christening party. I didn’t want to hold it at home because our space is small and I don’t think it can accommodate all of my friends and family members. Open pavilion in a park is also out of the question because I don’t want to expose my baby in this crazy hot and humid weather for a long period of time. So it’s got to be someplace indoors. With the help of my sister, I have been able to reserve a community/civic room here in our town. It’s only 2 minutes away from the house and it has a kitchen and a pretty spacious room for the party. However, setting up or decorating the place might be a little bit challenging. Since this is a multi-purpose room available for free for residents, several groups, agencies, clubs, organizations and stuff use this facility. The walls are filled with art work exhibits, trophies, city awards, pamphlets, group photographs and so much more. My heart sank when I saw that there won't be much empty wall for us to set up banners, balloons and stuff. Oh well, we'll work something out. At least we have a place and that's what matters.

Make your own fertilizer.

Most people enjoy growing plants in their garden. It’s something we would like to do when we get to have our own place. Gardening can be fun but it needs so much work, patience and dedication. Not to mention the need to buy fertilizers and stuff to make the plants thrive. Some make use of compost bin for unlimited amounts of free organic fertilizer. Now, that’s something to look into. I mean who would not want free fertilizer right from their own lawns and gardens, right?

Takes treasure hunting to new depths.

I’m glad summer is almost over, lol! I can’t wait for fall so I can finally bring my baby outside and go for walks. I am just not comfortable going out in this crazy hot weather. It gives me headache. I don’t want my baby to suffer through it as well. So if you’re like me, you’ve probably been inside the house your whole summer, eh. Have you done something adventurous like hunting for treasures for example? I remember when I was still in highschool, we would stay up late in school and wait for dark so we could explore the building and hunt for ghosts, lol! Of course, we didn’t see anything. But the thrill and excitement were so hard to ignore. For some people, they’d like to take hunting on the next level. I mean they would use sophisticated metal detectors equipments to search for coins, gold, hidden relics and stuff like that. The hobby can be expensive, but not when you take advantage of those metal detectors sale online. It’s like taking treasure hunting to new depths.

Thoughts on camping and RVs

It must have been convenient for those families that love to do outdoor activities to own an RV. My brother-in-law and his family went to go camping a few weeks back. His wife wishes to have an RV for it is very useful on long trips like that. Their campground neighbor has one and she thinks it’s really wonderful to have one for family outings and stuff. I agree. However, it could be additional expenditure for the family. Not to mention the cost of gas and insurance policies. There may have been reasonable rv insurance quote out there but I think if you don’t travel very much, one might just have to bring a camping tent or something. It is still cool and fun that way, you know!

Blast from the past (80's movies)

I haven't realized how much good stuff from the 80's I missed to watch until Netflix streaming becomes available. With recommendations from hubby who knows a lot about the 80's (music and movies), I have been able to relive the 80's moments through movies. At first I thought it's lame but when I started to watch old movies that I actually like, then I really got interested with more stuff back then. Glad there's Netflix. However, it's just disappointing to know that they will soon increase their rent fees. Oh well, anyway, the following are the movies from the 80's that I have enjoyed watching recently.

*Dirty Dancing
*The Breakfast Club
*Ferris Bueller's Day Off
*The Bodyguard (this is actually from the early 90's, lol! but it's old and I loved it)
*Just One of the Guys
*Poltergeist

Stressful.

I didn't think planning a special event for my little one can be very stressful. I am talking about baby's christening which we're planning to have in August. The church preparation itself was not that bad. Hubby, me and godparents had to attend a 2 hour class as a requirement. Baptism happens last week of the month. We're pretty much set for that. What stresses me out is the little party that I'd like to throw after. I have several Filipina friends that I wanted to invite and probably Jeff's and my sister's family would be here to join us as well. I have not decided on the venue yet. I didn't want it to be in the house because our place is small and it'll feel too crowded with all the guests. I was thinking of holding it either at a park or the church's social hall probably. It's just gonna be a small one so this shouldn't stress me out too much, lol!

Anything for the baby.

I used to enjoy buying clothes for myself. But that has changed when baby came along. I enjoy more choosing baby outfits nowadays. Babies need new clothes almost every 3 months. Man! They grow up so fast. I’d like to keep at least 2 week’s worth of sleep and play outfits. He spends so much time inside the house because of the extreme heat so there’s really no need yet to get clothes that can be worn outside. However, he also has several summer outfits, most of them he hasn’t worn yet, lol! I told you, I love to shop clothes for the baby. Anyway, when he becomes a teenager, I might let him try wearing urban clothes. I bet it’s cool and hip, don’t you think?

A plethora of laptop choices

Let’s face it, computers are now a great part of our lifestyle. Personally, I couldn’t live now without computer and the internet, lol! So I can’t blame my cousin for wanting to get a laptop lately. Whenever we chat, she would always ask me the question, “where can I find the latest laptops, ate?” Well, in her case, as a first time laptop buyer, she wants to get the latest generation of laptops so I told her to search online, compare prices and read reviews before seriously considering getting one. There are a number of great brands out there. I’m partial to HP since I own one but I told her to not limit her options and to get something that suit her needs.

Quitters never win.

If there is such a diet pill that works, I was never meant to find it in this lifetime, lol! Well, it’s because I don’t take them and I never even care to look for them in the market. I am not happy with my weight gain but I just can’t bring myself to take anything besides the occasional Ibuprofen. I guess I’ll just have to stick to the safe and tested slimming methods which I may add I am not having much progress yet, haha! But hey, quitters never win! That’s the spirit, lol!

A little bit of help won't hurt

A friend of mine who has been working out with much great results, I may add, has decided to go to buytestoripped.com to get a pre-workout energy amplifier. He has read plenty of good ravings about this product and he wants to give it a try. He thinks it wouldn't hurt to try something like this since he's really on his way to getting a very nice form. Well, to each his own. It might really help him achieve his goal pretty fast. So, why not!

At the zoo

Hubby took 3 days off from work so we could all relax, get out of the house and do something fun. We went to Tanger outlet mall in Branson first then stayed at a hotel in Springfield and get ready for loads of fun in the zoo the next day. It was just great to do stuff like this again. I could imagine things would get even more better when the baby gets bigger and older. I have been to several zoos in the US but it was Caleb's first so we're pretty much excited, at the same time apprehensive on how he's going to behave while we're there. Amazingly, he was such a good baby all throughout. I think he loves looking around, seeing new stuff, being with different kinds of people. We might do more travelling sometime soon. It can be very exhausting to travel with a baby but I think I'll get used to it. After all, we did lots of road trips back then and this time we're going to do it more as a family bonding.

Back to taking road trips

Before we had our baby, we used to take long road trips especially on holidays and special occasions. But that had to be put on halt for a while since the arrival of our little guy. I just thought as a little baby he’s very sensitive and I just wanted to shelter him from unnecessary stress. Now that he’s getting a little bit bigger and tougher, we are starting to bring him to trips. Last weekend, we took him to a zoo. He’s a little over 6 months old now. I know he couldn’t really remember this when he gets older but I think he enjoyed his time with us looking at those animals and a bunch of people in that place. I wish he’d turn out to be like us who super love to travel and explore new places. In general, I had a great time. Unfortunately, I lost a heart pendant. Instead of a diamond tennis bracelet, I think I’d ask hubby for a replacement pendant on our anniversary, lol!

Splish splash

My sister just recently bought a huge above-ground pool for her little boy. I think it’s a good one considering how hot it can get in the summertime. My nephew loves to swim and I’m sure he’s going to enjoy his summer vacation with that pool around. In this scorching heat, everyone would love a good cool dip in the pool. Public pools and water-theme parks are also a good summer vacation choices. As a matter of fact, some public pools even have pool disability access lifts to accommodate people with disabilities who would like some kind of temporary relief in this hot weather. How about you, have you planned your summer outing yet?

Travel light, right!

A week ago, Jeff went to a training class in Wisconsin. He likes to travel light especially that he’s travelling alone and it was only for 4 days. He wants to avoid the hassle of waiting in the claim baggage counter, only to find out they’ve lost your luggage (worst case scenario!). It happened to us before. So to be safe, he only brought a small backpack with him. His co-worker thought it’s amazing how he’d managed to fit the clothes and paperwork in one small backpack, lol! Well, everything fits but when he arrived home, I thought that poor little thing looks like it had seen better days, lol! It literally looks like it’s gonna burst any time. It gave me an idea on what stuff to get him on special occasions like birthday, anniversaries and stuff. Yeah, I always had a hard time getting him something. He’s a very practical man. He likes functional things. So I guess I’m going to have to look into wrestling bags. They look like backpacks, easy to carry but slightly roomy.

Private tour of the powerhouse

We had a personal tour of hubby's work place. I have been to the other plant in Ozark where we used to live but not to this one in Bull Shoals. I've always wanted to see how a dam works so one Friday afternoon, he took us to the power plant and showed us the place. It is actually a hydropower plant which obviously uses water to supply electric power to some parts of the state.

The dam is there to prevent the river from flooding. Due to the incessant rain for the last months, the lake's water level had gone higher than normal. They had to open up the spillway gates to allow lakewater to flow through the river. They did for a while. It had resulted to a little bit of flooding in some lower areas where the river passes through. To make the long story short, Jeff had to come in for a brief overtime so he could lower down some of the gates. He brought us along, gave us a tour and showed me the dam's walkway which was cool because it's just under the bridge. It was a bit scary but perfectly safe. We didn't go to the loud part of the plant which houses the huge turbines, generators and stuff. It was quite an interesting experience.

The dam's walkway underneath the bridge

The lowest part of the dam which is completely submerged in lakewater. It's the coolest part of the plant as well. It still feels like winter here.

Entertainment options

Have you dreamed of owning a huge multi-storey, picket-fenced house with great home security system like home security redlodge, for example? Well, I’m pretty sure it’s part of everyone’s American dream. I think being wealthy comes with such a high risk for intruders so having a dependable security system at home is a must. We live in a quiet, small retirement community here. I like the fact that we could just park our vehicles outside, or even leave our doors unlocked and still feel secure and confident that no one would break in and steal stuff. But personally, I wouldn’t mind owning a great security system just you know to keep our minds at ease.

On a different note, I just wanna say that I think Netflix is amazing. I watch streaming movies practically everyday 24/7. We do have a www.localtv-satellite.com subscription with DirecTV, with Filipino channels of course but I get tired of it sometimes. Watching movies on TV is awesome especially when I'm feeding the baby. It's the best way to while away the time, don't you think? How about you? Do you enjoy watching TV and movies?

Season for this and that

It’s summertime. For some, this is the best season to get into some outdoor activities or sports. Here in our area for example, we are close to a beautiful lake and people from all over the country that loves to fish, boat and swim would come here for a visit. For those that are not into water stuff, firing range and archery are some of the alternatives. You do need to get great bowhunting supplies though if you want to do this thing seriously. Some would just love to hang out outside their front porch and enjoy the free tan. Nothing wrong about that. Not all people love the outdoors but whatever it is, summer is the perfect season to do anything fun.

Inspired again

I know I gotta start working out pretty soon if I don’t wanna end up looking super plump. I feel inspired to try it out again because my skinny sister-in-law has been working out lately. She doesn’t need to really but she does, so I was like I have to do this because I really need to. I’m almost tempted to try nuphedragen, but nope, I don’t want an easy way out. Besides, I don’t really like to take anything aside from pain relievers. Heck, I couldn’t even make myself take my birth control pills, so I think there’s no way I’m gonna go for diet pills.

Undecided

Cell phone plans, even prepaid ones can be very confusing. I get frustrated because I can’t seem to find a phone and a plan that works for me. I don’t call, text or even get calls much so it would really just be a waste of money if I’d go for those convoluted conventional phones with contracts. I have owned a very cheap prepaid Nokia phone for years. Though it still works great for me when we travel, I thought I’d look into those new and nicer phones that have prepaid plans. I have seen quite a few that I like at Walmart but unfortunately, I was told that it won’t work well in our area. They offered me other options but they don’t have rollover balance which is pretty important to me since a $25 dollar refill card would last me several months. So I thought I’d do more research and maybe I can find some better deals online. AT&T wireless has some interesting prepaid phones and plan options so I might just get one from them. Oh, well I may have to sleep on it, probably tomorrow I can think straight and can finally decide on something. Ironically, I have already decided on a perfect case for cell phone, lol! I fell in love with the color so I guess that's my cue which phone to get then. Oh, well!

Spillway gates are opened

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before that hubby works in a hydro-power plant. We live close to the plant so technically we live close to Bull Shoals Dam. Fortunately, a more elevated area from the water itself. It has been raining incessantly for the past weeks or so, resulting to the increase of the lake's water level. They had to open the spillway gates to release water back to the river. We drove down to the area the other day and took some photos of the dam. The first one shows the lake, obviously with higher than normal water level. The second one shows the spillway gates as water rushes down stream to the river. I know it looks quite scary but the dam is there to prevent the lake from flooding which had happened a long time ago.

Blank mind

I don’t know what to blog about today. I feel like writing something but nothing really interesting comes to mind. The movie “This is Spinal Tap” which hubby is watching right now, is not actually helping me come up with great writing ideas. Not to mention the fact that I can hear the baby making weird baby noises in his bouncy chair right now. He probably doesn’t like the movie his daddy is watching either, lol! But hubby has been working his butt off with no day off this week so I guess he deserves a break and get to choose which movie he wants to watch, even if one of the characters wears this stupid looking softball socks which is supposed to make him look funny. Du’h!

Here we go again!

Sometimes I’d just wish I’m still pregnant, because for some reason, my face was cleared with blemishes and nodular acne when I was pregnant. It was probably due to the hormonal changes that my body was experiencing at that time. I have an acne-prone skin and I have to be very choosy with the products to put on my face. I have noticed a few acne on my forehead right now. Arrg, I hate it! I think I will start my Obagi treatment again before this starts to spread like wildfire.

Spring cleaning here and there

I thought I was gonna start some spring cleaning last weekend. Well, sorta… But actually I am also currently redecorating and rearranging the living room. Hubby also set up our home theatre which was just in the box for a year now, haha. Yes, we still have some boxes stacked up somewhere from the move from Ozark. We decided it’s about time to dig through them and see if we can use some stuff for our living room. Surprisingly, we found out an old rotary phone that hubby owned back when he was still single. It looks ancient alright but it still works, to my disgust surprise. I mean this thing was probably before barcode scanners exist. It’s amazing how the world evolves. Technology has definitely improved our way of life. I intend to finish my living room project before August. I am excited. I’d be buying new accent items with exciting colors to make the room pop. It’ll be fun.

Favorite time of the year

I love the spring time. Beautiful weather, luscious spring greens everywhere, perfect time to hang out outdoors. The bright sun can be pretty annoying but hey sunscreen lotions are sold cheaply in almost every store in town. More so, it’s my favorite time of the year because I can use my persol sunglasses and look cool, chic and fabulous. How about you, are you ready for the spring?

Am I just being impatient or what!

For some reason, we always seem to get stuck behind a slow moving check-out counter. We went to Walmart today after a doctor’s appointment to grab some baby stuff and it took them so long to check us out. I don’t care if they are using those fancy bluetooth barcode scanner, I just think the long wait at the counter was unacceptable. It didn’t bother me before I had a baby, but now every single second matters. Oh well, just ranting! I don’t want to dwell on negativities anymore, lol!

Table Rock Homes

When we decided to move out of Ozark a year ago, hubby considered working at the Table Rock Dam in Branson, Missouri. The Table Rock lake homes in the area were absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, there was not an open post at that time so we settled at Bull Shoals area instead which is approximately a little over an ago away from Table Rock. The lake here is pretty. However, I am not really an outdoorsy type so we’ve not done anything like fishing or swimming yet. Too bad huh! Well, probably when the baby gets old enough to enjoy doing stuff like this, we might go out and do outdoor stuff more often.

Social security crisis: A myth or not

Don’t you think it’s unfair that you contribute a portion of your pay for social security, when in fact they’re saying that they will soon start paying out more benefits that it receives in contribution, as a result, they may no longer exist when we retire? Is this just a myth or is there some truth to this sad projection? If we can’t get any social security benefits in the future, what’s the point of contributing now? Arrgg! Well, but that’s just my two cents!

Anecdotes of a first-time mom

I have a new blog. It's about the joys and pains of being a new mom. I will also be sharing tons of photos of my baby as well as videos of every milestone and other cute stuff. I'll have the layout changed soon. I'd like it to look more personal and pleasant to the eyes of the readers. When you get the chance, please check it out either by clicking on the link provided above or the widget on my sidebar. Thanks!

Opportunity outside home

Would it be nice to have the opportunity to be a work-at-home-mom? Actually, I enjoy being a stay-at-home-mom, but what if my baby doesn’t need me anymore? Would there still be a place for me to work out there? I am thinking of going back to school. I mean probably just associate degrees that could make me get at least into tech jobs. And I think the health care field is the best option.

Just the One I was looking for

Look how gorgeous this coffee table is! The moment I saw it I knew it was the perfect table I was looking for. I have been wanting to buy a coffee table but nothing really stood out for me at any of the furniture stores that I've looked at. So I tried searching online hoping to find a unique piece that I could add to our humble living room. Lo and behold, I've found this elegant piece on Overstock.com. I was quite reluctant to purchase an important piece of furniture over the internet but I got convinced by its great reviews about this product. And it doesn't come with an outrageous price tag as well which was a great thing. Now I am excited to look for accent rug, new throw pillows and probably more wall decor to go with our couch and coffee table. I have some coordinating colors in mind and I can't wait to add some touch of elegance to our space.

Happy Graduation!!!

Officially school is over for my sister. She just graduated from Nursing school last Friday. She made us all proud. Now I can say all three of us have finished college and I thank my parents for the guidance and support and of course for instilling in us the importance of education. This may be the end of school work but it's definitely the start of more challenging experiences for her in the real world. She's just gonna take a little breather then she's gonna head out for a tougher objective which is to take review classes then take the licensure exams. Good luck to you my dearest sister! I love you and I am so proud of you.

Watch out for electronic pickpocketers

In a lot of countries including the Philippines, pickpocketing is unfortunately common. Some of my friends and relatives have become victims of these despicable people. The sad thing is that many of them even make pickpocketing their means of living. Having done it so many times they are so used to the act that it had become natural for them. Amazingly, most of the time you won’t even realize you’ve been pickpocketed until you reach out for your purse or wallet and find out it’s no longer there. Now in the more developed countries like the U.S., hi tech pickpocketing has been becoming a trend. Yes, thieves have employed electronic ways of stealing. Your credit cards don’t have to end up in the hands of these people before they can steal from you. You could lose valuable information even without the criminals touching your purse or wallet. Scary huh!

A new baby in the making

Ooops, before you start to think what this is all about, I'm gonna have to tell you that I'm not broody or anything. We're not ready for another baby yet, hehe! I am actually talking about a new blog of mine that I am currently working on right now. It's actually my 3rd, but I didn't want to continue my travel blog anymore so this is officially my 2nd working blog. It is about my revelations as a first time mom. Being a new mom is new journey for me. I want to share it all to my friends and family by putting everything in writing. I'm currently working on the template and stuff so I will share the link when everything is all set and ready. I hope you guys would be interested to know my experiences with my first little angel. See yah!

Backyard fun

People that love the outdoors always look forward to the warm weather in the spring and summer time. Who wouldn’t? It is a perfect time to hang out with family and friends especially when there’s outdoor fire pits that would certainly add some warm ambiance to an outdoor patio area. It’s the best place to entertain guests in a lively conversation or probably enjoy some time alone in a romantic setting in front of a flickering blaze. Wish we had a spacious backyard or a deck or something, it would have been a nice home project to make it look cozy for family hang-outs and stuff.

Jammie girl

It has started to warm up lately. I should be putting away my jammies now that it feels uncomfortable wearing it to bed in a warmish weather. It’s time to take the sleeveless tanks and shorts out of the storage and start wearing them at bedtime. Unlike some women who like to dress provocative lingerie to bed, I actually prefer wearing cotton jammies. I don’t think I’d ever try wearing corset tops. The most I could do maybe is sleep on a chemise. The silky ones are very comfortable to sleep on actually. See, I’m more on comfort rather than looking seductive, lol.

Finding the right piece for the right price

One thing I’d like about watching HGTV’s House Hunters and other house display shows is drooling over the modern furniture that they feature in their houses. I mean who wouldn’t love to have modern furniture in their homes, right? Some of them can be very expensive but I’m pretty sure if one knows where to look for the right places, you could still get some good bargains even on modern furniture and stuff. I actually found a very unique style coffee table online. I like it very much and it doesn't come with a hefty price tag so it's a plus. However, I am quite reluctant to get it since I have not seen it besides the online photos which are kinda deceiving sometimes. The reviews are good so I might just have to close my eyes, rely on other people's opinions and just right ahead purchase that stuff (if I can convince my DH of course, hehe!)

Need more creative ideas

Getting something for other people’s special occasion like birthdays can be a daunting task for me. I usually find it hard to buy presents for male friends and family members. None of them are into sports so despite the numerous football gifts that you could choose from, I couldn’t include that in my selection of gift ideas. I wish I am more creative and imaginative so I could come up with interesting gift ideas for special occasions. Oh well, I guess it's the thought that counts right?

Electronic cigarette in the market

It must have been hard for smokers to quit smoking. I don’t smoke and I’m glad that hubby quit smoking cold turkey years before we met. But I have known people that like to quit but couldn’t. With the latest breakthrough of vapor smoking, they may now have a better option and a way to gradually quit. I’ve seen those electronic cigarette commercials and wonder if how does that differ from real cigarettes. Some have liked it and probably a lot of smokers have not tried it yet or haven’t heard about it yet. An electronic cigarette comparison chart may be a good place to start, especially if you’re a little bit reluctant to even try.

Same name, different product

When hubby and I had started dating, I used to like the scent of Coolwater by Davidoff on him. I have now a different favorite scent but just the other day I thought of looking it up over the internet and check some reviews and stuff. Then I happened to see davidoff cigars in the process. I didn’t even realize it is also a name of a fine cigar. Interesting! Though none of us in the house likes to smoke, it got me into reading more about the product...just out of curiosity.

My ambition soon to be realized by her

I have just blogged about my youngest sister graduating from a Nursing school this April. Along the way, we know about the hardships so we’re so proud of her that she made it all the way to 4th year. At times, I thought about getting an online nursing degree here in the U.S., but just not willing enough to go through the hassle of going back to school especially a Nursing degree. So I can’t really say how proud I am to have a sister who is soon going to be a nurse. Hopefully, God-willing she’ll pass the board soon. Maybe she’ll be the one who’s gonna make my dream to become a nurse come true, hehe, even if it's not an online nursing degree.

Can't get motivated enough

It’s spring once again and most of my friends are talking about getting back in shape and stuff like that. I wish I feel more motivated like them. I’d like to lose most of my post partum fats but sometimes I just don’t know where to start, haha! Of course there’s the treadmill, hiphop cardio dvd and ads on creatine supplements, but I think I needed the push to get started. Most times I think taking care of the baby is enough cardio to shed off pounds, haha, but I know it's not. I guess I'm just being lazy. C'mon, exercise fairy, send me some motivation here!

Create a new look every year

I enjoy checking out bed and bath linens collections online. I’d like to have at least two new sets of beddings every year to create a different look in our bedroom. It doesn’t have to be Sferra brand or any other luxurious fine linens that are also very expensive. As a matter of fact, I prefer sets that are machine washable, though I would like to have a satin and silky comforter but the dry clean only warning sometimes puts me off. I just find it too inconvenient and unnecessary to spend more in dry cleaning those when they get dirty. How about you? How often do you change bedding sets?

Am I making the right choice?

When we move up here in Lakeview, I got rid of our old, flimsy entertainment center and made use of an outdoor wooden table as a makeshift tv stand. The downside to that decision was I won’t be able to fit our DVD player, WII and audio speakers on the table. Now I wanted to get a real tv stand and I am studying my options whether to get a cheap, small one or invest into something pricier and durable for it to last for a long time.

Good tent for family camping

When we were still dating, we’ve talked about the things that we would like to do together as a couple. One of them is camping. Unfortunately, we haven’t had the chance to do it yet. However, now that we have our little guy with us, camping is a must for us as a family. We need great camping tools and stuff. I was thinking of looking more into an Big Agnes Copper Spur Tent. A good tent is a necessity when camping outdoors so I thought of checking some of the good stuff. It might not be this summer yet but definitely when the baby is old enough to enjoy the outdoors, we’ll spend some time family camping.

We are proud of you, Mai!

After four long years in Nursing school, you have finally made it to the finish line. It has always been the family's dream to see you earn a degree in college. We know it was never that easy for you. But somehow, we were confident that you would endure all the hardships all Nursing students have to face. We have nothing but pure pride and joy now that you were able to prove to yourself that you can do it. To you, this is just the beginning of more hard work and perseverance but we are positive that you are ready to face them all. Don't let the pressure of the licensure exam get to you. Being a Nursing graduate in itself is a feat. That's more than enough reason for us to be happy and proud. Whatever happens, we as your family will always be behind you no matter. We love you and we are so proud of you! You will always be our pretty little sister and our Little Miss Philippines-Cebu, hehe! Now you can join the distinguished line-up of graduation picture frames in our living room, haha!

Keeping the room nice and humid

Winter is almost over and I must say our newly bought Crane humidifier helped our little guy get through the cold winter nights. At first, I didn’t think it was necessary to have one but I still went ahead and got one for the baby and I’m glad I did. We didn’t have any breathing issues and definitely the baby is healthy and has not experienced colds with stuffy nose or any allergy issues so far. (knock on wood!) It won’t be too long before it gets too humid again so I need to do some maintenance cleaning on that thing before it goes to storage. How about you, did your humidifier work best for you as well?

A taste of chopsuey

I was inspired by Michelle's post about chopsuey so I asked for the recipe's link and thought I would give it a try. I love this dish even back when I was still in Pinas. I craved for this and actually satisfied my cravings by making this delectable dish. I don't usually eat veggies but when cooked like this, I just couldn't say no. I used to just drool over my fave dishes because I can't cook but I guess my cooking ability has improved as time goes by. I wouldn't say I made it perfectly but it sure passed my palate's standards and hubby's as well.

Our family chore chart

This guest post from Lenny Mcknight

One thing that I learned as a much older sister to two siblings is that you can't expect kids to just pick up things after they've been doing the opposite for a while and have gotten used to that. So when I had kids I decided that I was going to try and teach them responsibility at a young age to try to be fair to them. Part of that is the family chore chart that we have, which includes even my husband and mine's duties on it too.

We've been using a chore chart for years now but I wanted to upgrade to a new one because our old white board one was starting to look really shabby. I went online to find a new way to make one and while I was doing that I found a wild blue comparison that looked really great and signed up for the internet provider for our home service.

I finally found one that I liked, which was made out of a magnetic board. I also even made little magnets for our family chore chart which separate chores labeled on each one. It looks pretty cute and I think that this one is going to hold up for quite a while from now.

Don't let it control you

We hate to see our loved ones in pain. However, as we grow older, our body tends to deteriorate thus feeling pain and soreness when we overwork or overstress ourselves. It could also be from lack of exercise and proper diet. At times, I have lower back pains, probably from improper posture especially when carrying the baby. I know I am not the only one having minor muscle aches and soreness. It surely is very annoying and uncomfortable. Some people even experience more major pains in their body especially older people, athletes and those that were very physically active. So they even resort to electrical stimulation for pain control. For many years, TENS Units, Muscle Stimulators have been used to control both acute and chronic pain. You could Visit LGMedSupply Online to see more of their products and if interested order from them. Their pain relief products are used by thousands of satisfied patients worldwide.

Over the years, electrical stimulation products have improved and developed into something more effective in helping with pain control. Recently, the LG-TEC Dual Combo TENS Unit and Muscle Stimulator which is a combination unit that enables you to benefit from the TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) Pain Relief and the Muscle Stimulator for increased muscle tone and muscle pain rehabilitation has been available to people who need them. If you think the pain you’ve been experiencing hinders you from living your life on a day to day basis, maybe it’s time to know more about electrical stimulation from online customer blog. Don’t let the pain control you, act now!

Deal only with secured sites

Giving out credit card information over the internet could be risky and scary. But to tell you the truth, I have done it through my online purchases and have been quite comfortable about it since I'm sure that those websites are legitimate and secured. Most companies that do legitimate business online make sure they have pci compliance hosting. I normally don't do transactions with unsecured and questionable dealers. I've never had problems so far. And I'm pretty sure most credit cards companies would let you contest transactions that you didn't make in the first place.

Bring back the youthful glow

Stress is part of life. The busy lifestyle, demanding jobs, pressure from being a full time mom, pressure from school, etc etc all contribute to feeling stressed out. It’s a misconception that only old people get wrinkles. Actually, regardless of age, you could get wrinkles. That’s why it didn’t surprise me to know some young people who are looking for the best anti wrinkle cream out there. Right amount of sleep, diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle of course could make a difference but if nothing seems to work, it’s always a good thing to know that we can use effective and safe anti-wrinkle creams to bring back that youthful glow.

Go natural

Acne problem is one of the common skin issues almost everyone is facing at least once in their adulthood. It can be a difficult problem for some people but the truth is, there is actually a proven and trusted cure for acne. It may take several products to try but once you found the solution, your skin problem would end. There are thousands of acne products in the market today but I think natural acne products is something that every acne sufferer should try. Some people are allergic to synthetic products and those may not even be effective in fighting acne. Natural products are always safe to use and it may be the one you've been searching for to cure your facial problems.

That elusive first smile

I sometimes think my baby is the snobbish type, lol. I've read most babies give their first smile as early as 5 weeks. But my baby didn't actually smile until he was around 7 weeks old. And he didn't really smile at me, but on the Winnie the Pooh stickers on our wall at his diaper changing station. These pictures are taken one morning while I was changing his dirty diapers. All of a sudden after staring blankly at the wall with all those cute stickers on, he's got this amused look on his face and starting to "goo" over the pictures and gave out his first faint smile, haha.

Now at 2 months old, he smiles more often than before. He's been sleeping better at nights as well which is really good for me, hehe. He now weighs 12.5 pounds based from his 2-month check up last Friday. He had 3 vaccine shots and it was hard for me seeing him cry when the nurse poked his legs with needles. If only I could get the shots for him. I was a bit worried that he might have some fever but thankfully he was fine. I can't wait to share more baby developments here on my blog soon.
