Diva: The KantaSerye

When I think of Regine Velasquez, I can picture her as this:

Glamorous...Fabulous...Famous...Beautiful...Sultry...Sexy...Songbird...with a very powerful voice.

So imagine my surprise when she agreed to come out on her latest T.V. show looking like this:

Hahaha! This in itself would really make me watch her new show. The title is "DIVA" which is a story of a girl named "Sampaguita", who looks unbelievably ugly but is gifted with an angelic and powerful voice. Sampaguita loves to sing and joins in every amateur singing contest that she can think of but always comes home as a loser because of her unpleasant face. Eventually, she met somebody who was willing to take her as their band's vocalist but with the condition that she has to wear scarves or elaborately huge hats just to cover her face whenever they sing on their gigs. It's a romantic comedy and it's a genre she does best. It's kinda like my "personal afternoon therapy" as the show never fails to make me laugh whenever I see the "ugly Regine" on screen. Of course, she would not stay ugly forever as for some stroke of luck, the band will become successful and she would become very famous as "Melody". With some cosmetic help, she would eventually transform into this:

The show had started airing last week and I enjoyed it immensely. Besides the laughter and witty dialogues, they have wonderful production numbers and as a fan, it's a bonus to see her not just act but sing as well. I'm glad we have subscribed to TFC and GMA Pinoy TV. At least even if I'm far away from the Philippines, I can still get to watch Filipino shows and be updated with whatever is new back in my homeland.

Regine Velasquez tested positive for influenza A(H1N1) virus

Waaahhh! The songbird was infected with H1N1 virus. She's supposed to be the special guest of Charice Pempengco's first major concert in the Philippines but she was hospitalized and couldn't make it to the said show. I just found out tonight on T.V. Patrol that she indeed got the virus but thankfully she recovered. She's not certain where she got it but her immune system must have been pretty low considering that she was overworked from a series of concerts here in the U.S. then she went straight to work right away when she got back to the Philippines. I'm glad that she's looking healthy and pretty again. It just shows that anybody could get the virus so we really have to be extra careful. Tsk. tsk. tsk.

Like it, Love it, Hate it, Whatever... JUST ENJOY IT!!!

That's the famous dialogue of the newest YouTube sensation, "Rin on the Rox". I was visiting my favorite blogs one night when I came across with a post talking about this phenomenal singing duo. I got interested to watch their videos and listen to their voices when I've read that Ellen de Generes was calling out to this pretty girls to guest on her show. What's pretty exciting is the fact that these two talented ladies are Filipinos. I remember when Charice Pempengco was also given the chance to guest in this famous American tv show after being watched by millions of people in YouTube. Anyway, take the time to watch the videos below and you'd definitely like their voices and renditions of the famous songs, "If I Were a Boy" by Beyonce and "T-Shirt" by Shontelle. Enjoy peeps!!!

Marian vs. Karylle

It's been a while since I wrote about our local entertainment industry. What prompted me to write is the on-going "love triangle" controversy between Marian Rivera and Karylle over Dingdong Dantes. Alright...for those of you are not updated with GMA Kapuso stars. Karylle is the 5-year girlfriend of Dingdong while Marian is his on-screen partner. It seemed like Dingdong had fallen out of love with Karylle because he developed an affection with his reel partner Marian. Hmmm! Sounds complicated. Karylle is hurting right now. As a matter of fact, she moved to ABS-CBN to avoid any complications with Marian and Dingdong. There's been a recent rumor that Marian is pregnant with Dingdong's child. Whoa! Neither of them admitted that they are really together so it's kinda weird that there had been talks that she's preggy. Gosh! I hope it's not true. I like Marian's beauty and acting skills so I hope she won't just put everything to waste because of Dingdong. Duh! Showbiz life, hehehe! Kakaloka!

It's your time to SHINE...

I wanna share a little secret here in this post. There’s only a few close people who know about this so this might be a surprise to most of you here. Back in 1996, my youngest sister, who was 6 yrs. old back then represented Cebu City in Eat Bulaga’s Little Miss Philippines. She didn’t make it to the Finals but it paved the way for a supposedly showbiz opportunity for her, had we been committed to leave Cebu and start from scratch in the busy city of Metro Manila which we didn't do. I hope my sister won’t kill me for divulging this little info about her. Anyway, she joined workshops and auditions, and was included as one of the movie extras in the movie, DO RE MI playing one of the choir kids. There was no dialogue but that scene alone took us one whole day at the location shoot. We've met all the major stars in that movie and we even shared dressing rooms and restrooms with them. The funny part of it was my mom and I were even captured by the camera as it zoomed in Mikee Cojuangco while she was walking down the audience seating area as part of the movie scene. I don’t have dreams to be in the movies or anything like that but I just think it’s cool that I once witnessed a movie shoot and was even remotely involved.

How about you? Do you have dreams of becoming a STAR? This is your chance. Talent6 is looking for talents from all walks of life. All you have to do is call their toll free number to talk with a portfolio manager at 800-493-9047. Who knows, this might be the big break that you’ve been waiting for! Contact Talent6 today!

Juday as Rated A Queen

I've always loved to watch movies. I don't necessarily watch all of them on the big screen but I at least rent it at Video City every chance I got. I thought that I would no longer be able to watch Tagalog films now that I am here in the U.S., but I am thankful for those kind Filipinos here who would take the precious time to upload DVDs of Tagalog movies so that somebody like me can watch it for free over the internet.

I am specifically excited to watch Judy Ann Santos' latest film Mag-ingat Ka sa Kulam. Cinema Evaluation Board gave it an A-rating, an addition to Juday's line up of A-rated films like Ouija, Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo, Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo, and her self-produced movie Ploning. "Kulam" is Regal Films 48th anniversary offering and is set to hit the theaters on October 1, 2008. It is written and directed by Jun Lana.

Vina Morales, Pregnant?!?

Well, I didn't believe it until I saw her interview with Christy Fermin on The Buzz this afternoon. Celebrities getting pregnant even before they got married is not something new but it still did surprise me now that it happens to Vina Morales. I haven't heard that she ever got married at the age of 32 and she's also not very vocal about her non-showbiz boyfriend, Cedric Lee so it came as a shock when I first learned about it. She confirmed that she's 2 months pregnant and that they consider it a blessing. Goodluck to her and hope she'll have a healthy pregnancy.

Jolina's Destiny

One of the talented artists in Philippine showbiz, Jolina has long been destined to find her spot in the recording industry. Coming out with a third album under GMA Records, she proved once more that she's still a force to be reckoned with. Having been in the industry for 20 years, she does venture into a lot of different things - actress, host, judge, entrepreneur, singer and most of all a normal woman who fell in love.

Her new album, entitled "Destiny" contains 10 unforgettable love songs ranging from soothing ballads to electronica-sounding upbeat pop songs. The carrier single, "Will of the Wind", is also the theme song of her upcoming movie I.T.A.L.Y. which is gonna be shown on September 17th. Go grab a copy of Destiny now!

Banzai...Get your Chopsticks Ready!

ScreenLife Games is at it again. They launched a new Banzai game. Check it out:

I was surprised to get a package from IZEA last week. It was a free Banzai DVD game by Screenlife Games. We didn’t get to try and play it until last night and we’re glad that we did. It was a fun and crazy game. I’ve never actually played a Japanese game before and I’m surprised that I did enjoy it. We both read and watch the mechanics of the game on dvd but it didn’t make sense at first until we actually played it. One of the things that I enjoyed about it is the use of chopsticks. I’ve never used one in my entire life and Jeff used to brag that he did know how to use chopsticks but I found out last night that I can use chopsticks better than him. Sorry, my love, I have to divulge that info in my post. Hehe. While we were actually betting during the game, it just suddenly dawned on me the technique to hold the chopsticks so I can transfer lots of sushis into my bowl. I am so glad that I now know how to use one.

Photobucket

Now about the game itself, there are funny and crazy dares or events that took place in the game but I guess our most favorite was the Umbrella Roullette. We both got a kick out of watching the guy chose the umbrella that kinda’ punch him on the face. Even the guy himself got totally surprised and laugh at himself. If at this point you grow curious as to what game I am talking about, check Banzai online and visit Tako’s My Space page at myspace.com/takotheocto. I can guarantee that it’s loads of fun.

Meet Katee Taira Shean: So You Think You Can Dance Finalist

They are already down to Top 10 finalists. All of them are fantastic dancers but I picked out my favorite. Who else could it be but the pretty, 20 y/o Contemporary dancer from San Jose, California. Katee started dancing at the young age of 4. She had formal dance training at the Team Dance Company and Atlas School of Dance. I'm amazed of how magnificent she dances to almost any category. Below are a bunch of my favorite dance routine videos of Katee and Joshua (co-finalist) from So You Think You Can Dance. Enjoy!!!

Poise after The Great Fall

I think it would be everyone's nightmare to tumble on stage in front of millions of viewers. It was a nightmare come true for Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart, who never would have thought in a million years that she would fall down in the prestigious Miss Universe beauty pageant but in this case, accidents happen. After Miss USA 2007 suffered the same fate last year, one would wonder why American candidates go through the same humiliation. It was impressive to note though that both of them were able to handle it very well and continued on as if nothing had happened.

Miss Venezuela is Miss Universe 2008

Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza bested the other 79 lovely candidates in this year's Miss Universe beauty pageant held in Vietnam. The 22-year old Latina beauty confessed that she was once a victim of 'express kidnapping' in her own country and that experience taught her to remain poised under pressure.

Three other Latina beauties made it to the Top 5 Finalists, Ms. Colombia (1st runner-up), Ms. Dominican Republic (2nd runner-up) and Ms. Mexico (4th runner-up). Ms. Russia won 3rd place.

On the other hand, it was a nightmare come true for Ms. USA as she fell on stage when she tripped on the train of her bejeweled evening gown. Ms. USA made it to the Top 10 Finalists.

My Girl invades Baguio despite heavy rains

Do you watch My Girl? This is a cute romantic comedy Filipino adaptation of a Korean soap opera that stars Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. I love this show. I find Kim's character funny and lovable. The episodes keep getting nicer and nicer and major shifts are gonna happen with some characters' relationship in the story. The latest buzz about My Girl is the cast went up to the City of Pines, Baguio to do a 3-day shoot this week. This makes the show even more exciting as we all know how romantic the place is. I've been to Baguio and it's one of the nicest places I've ever been.

The frequent afternoon rains caused delays with the shoots, messed up their taping schedules so they had to stretch their tapings up to the late evenings. Because of the rain, there may not be enough time for Kim to hit the ukay-ukay market which she loves to do in between breaks, Gerald on the other hand makes the most of their production downtimes by enjoying the beautiful scenery of Baguio. Wow, the Baguio scenes must make this show even more fun and exciting to watch. To all My Girl fans, Tira Tira!!!

Glenn Beck's Political Humor

I am not really into political satire comedy but recently, I took the chance to visit the website of one of the famous comedians in this genre, Glenn Beck. I find the views in his blog very interesting. He has this way of making pressing political issues sound lighter by hints of humor but if you come to think about it, some of his opinions are true, therefore I agree with them. His opinions can be controversial but one must admit, this guy is smart and funny. He has shows on television, radio and he even writes books but if you want to listen more views from this guy, Glenn Beck will be touring this summer. Don’t miss the chance to see him in a One Night Comedy Show Beck ’08 Unelectable. This is gonna be on the 17th of July in Dallas and will be broadcasted nationally to select movie theaters nationwide.

Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Jennifer Barrientos competes in Vietnam

Jennifer Barrientos, 22 y/o, who hails from San Mateo Rizal is Philippine's representative for 2008 Miss Universe to be held in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam. This 5'8" Filipina stunner will try to bring home the elusive Ms. Universe crown. After Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran won it decades ago, we only came close to winning it back last 1999 when Miriam Quaimbao won as the First Runner Up.

NBC will air the Miss Universe 2008 pageant night live on Sunday, July 13th, 9-11 PM Eastern Time.

Goodluck to our bet, Ms. Jennifer Barrientos!

Who is Glenn Beck?

It’s actually my first time to have heard of him. I went to his site and watched his videos and now I know that he is a political satire comedian. I saw his video about Energy Independence which touches about the pressing issue at hand which is the oil price hike. Though this issue is not a laughing matter, Glenn Beck was able to share his unique point of view about this matter in a deliberately funny way. If you want to catch Glenn Beck live, get a ticket for his Summer Political Tour comedy show dubbed as "Beck ‘08" in Dallas on July 17th. This is gonna be a One Night Only so grab the chance for an experience what politicians might sound like when they told the truth. Listen to what is on his mind and be entertained.

Ako si Kim Samsoon

Regine Velasquez is Kim SamSoon. She is a chubby, funny and quirky old maid who can make delicious cakes and sumptuous desserts. I've seen the first few episodes on tv and I must say Regine fits the role. She has a natural talent in comedy and she looks so different in this show. Gone were the glamorous make-ups and revealing outfits. She looks so ordinary and simple when she wears those dusters on the show. They even make her look bigger and it looked so realistic on tv. I like her character in this show. It shows a different side of the Songbird.

Marian Rivera is FHM's Sexiest Pinay for 2008

It's official. FHM Philippines released the final tally of votes and it was confirmed that the Dyesebel star, Ms. Marian Rivera is indeed the sexiest Pinay for 2008 according to the annual poll done by FHM. Marian Rivera got 316,135 votes via text and online voting clinching her at the first place, Katrina Halili landed on the 2nd spot with her 123,239 votes and Angel Locsin came in third with her 121,388 votes. It is interesting to know that among the women vying for the top spot, only Marian Rivera hasn't been a covergirl for FHM. She was once offered to pose as a covergirl but was not ready for it at that time. But in her prior TV interviews, Marian Rivera expressed an interest to grace the cover of the best-selling men's magazine in the country if she would become #1 in the poll results.
