My First Day at Work

Like I've mentioned in my previous post, August 4th is my first day at work on my first job here in the US as a PC Support Specialist in a bank. I've been jobless for a year so I was really so nervous going back to being a career woman. Thank God the first day was just like a walk in the park. I spent my 8 hours filling out forms, meeting the Chief Information Officer and other bank employees and reading handbooks and manuals about the Information Systems Process and Policies. It felt different to be around native English-speakers in the office, not to mention there were only 2 females (me included) in the Information Systems Department. Our manager was so nice and friendly and it seemed like they all kinda have expected me to be there. By the way, I think I'm the only non-Caucasian person in the building and I really think most of them are kinda curious and interested in a positive way to have a foreigner co-worker. I get shy when I am around them which I hope it's normal. I mean I don't want to be anti-social or something but deep inside me I don't think I belong yet. I know it's gonna take some time, afterall, it's just my first day. They seem to be all nice, professional and friendly people though.

My apologies to my blogger friends for I might not be able to do bloghopping and EC dropping this week yet. I had to establish a routine for my work and my blogging of course but for a week, I might just need to get the hang of it. As of this writing, my head feels light and it's almost bedtime for me so I hope you will understand if I can't frequent your sites just yet. I'll promise to make it all up to you if my body gets used to my new schedule. Have a nice day, everyone!!! Ciao!

Hi Jenn! Glad to meet a fellow transplant Arkansan.

Good luck with your new job. It seems that it is a plus to be more shy - I'm not shy and it has backfired on me here.

That's normal girl to feel that you don't belong in an environment with white people around. someday you'll laugh with them. it happened to me also nung bago pa ako sa work. buti na lang may isang pinay din dun na matagal ng nag work so ok lang. tahimik ako dati pero ngayon okay na, unless pag wala sa mood. hehe

ate Jenn,

I'm glad that your first day at work turned out smooth. it's natural for us to feel shy at first. of course, we don't know the personalities of each people. so you are still trying to figure out how to approach them.

as time goes by, you will be more comfortable and will enjoy their company while working.

take care, ate Jenn!
