Grilled Ribs Recipe

I want to share a recipe that I came across at Cooks.com. I tried this last night and oh my it was so yummy. I just forgot to take some pictures but don't just take my word for it, see for yourself!

Ingredients:

4lbs. country style ribs
2 tbsp. dry mustard
1 tbsp. coarsely ground black pepper
2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
3/4 c. soy sauce
1/2 c. vinegar
1/3 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
2 cloves garlic, minced

Place ribs in shallow 3 quart baking dish. Combine remaining ingredients for marinade. Pour over ribs; refrigerate 24 hours, turning meat occasionally. Place a foil pan large enought to catch drippings on briquettes before preheating gas grill. Remove ribs from marinade; secure with prongs on rotisserie spit. Tie ribs together with string. Cook on low to medium setting for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Bon appetit!

Pictures Over The Weekend

As what I've written in my previous blogs, we had a short trip to Little Rock, AR last weekend. This isn't my first time to visit the place though, so the following pics might not really show the beauty of the city since we didn't go downtown this time. We just went there to visit Dad, try out the Hilton Hotel treadmill and binge right after.

The Best of Me: Regine Velasquez Birthday Special

I watched Asia's Songbird's birthday tv special last night dubbed as "The Best of Me." It was indeed the best of Regine Velasquez as she sang magnificent songs coming from the heart. The following video is an excerpt of that mini-concert of hers done at her new, classy and modern-looking house. She sang two songs in this video, "Hotel California" which was a very good rendition and of course my most memorable performance in this special, a Spanish song by Josh Groban entitled "Per Te." Obviously, she ain't scared of heights 'coz she belted the high notes while she's standing on the edge of her very high point swimming pool. It was a truly remarkable performance from the one and only Songbird.

Today's Rambling

What a beautiful Thursday morning! I woke up early as usual to see Jeff goes off to work. Everything is so green outside. The spring morning dew is so evident in the morning and the smell of the morning breeze is almost tempting me to go out and take a walk. But of course, I didn't 'coz half of my brains was still asleep, lol! Me and hubby's favorite line when we wake up is "I hate mornings!" We're not morning persons actually.

Right after Jeff left for work, I went straight to the computer room and do my thing which is to check blog opps. Unfortunately, zero opps is waiting for me. I did some bloghopping and see how are my blogista friends doing. I wish I could visit all of them but there are just too many to bloghop everyday. But as much as possible, I try to visit back first the people who left messages in my chatbox. I could never forget to check everyday my Yahoo, Multiply and Friendster accounts and of course my day to day source of showbiz chika, Philippine Entertainment Portal. I had fun reading Jolina's blog in PEP about her recent visit to Venice, Italy for a movie shoot. I also love Venice, it's a place that I've always dreamt of visiting someday.

Tomorrow is gonna be the start of a busy weekend for me. I'm looking forward to our trip to Little Rock, the shopping that I'm gonna do there, the possible visit to Pinnacle Mountain if we still have time, the dinner with Dad, the treadmill experience at Hilton and the most exciting part is I'm gonna be partially driving on the Interstate on our way there. Isn't it cool and exciting, eh?

Weekend Whim

I am anticipating another fun-filled and special bonding weekend with Jeff. We're going to Little Rock, the capital city of Arkansas to visit Dad and it's gonna be an overnight stay at Hilton Hotel. Why Hilton? Well, for the simple reason that we're gonna have to try their Sole F85 treadmills. We plan to buy this treadmill after reading good reviews about it in the web. Since we couldn't find it in the mall, we think of checking in Hilton so we could try it. Yeah, reviews said that this is the brand that Hilton uses in their fitness center. We're going to find out on Friday.

Dyesebel ready to make a splash

This summer, Marian Rivera will conquer the hearts of the Filipinos once more in an enchanting underwater adventure of the original Pinay mermaid, Dyesebel. Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel is one of the classic comic book creations of Mars Ravelo which was adapted into numerous movies since 1953. Joining the very captivating Marian in this fantaserye is the primetime hunk Dingdong Dantes who plays the role of Fredo, a multimedia mogul so full of himself. Marian’s versatility as an actress will be tested as she gives a fresh take to this much-coveted role which also aims to separate her from her character of MariMar, the phenomenal series that launched her to stardom. Dyesebel is directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal and it'll start airing on April 28th.

Angel Locsin's Sexy Dance Number

At the height of the controversy of Angel's transfer to Abs-Cbn, I have seen comments from the other network that Angel can't sing and dance. But she proved them wrong. I've seen and heard her sing already many times in ASAP but I've yet to see her dance in a show. Much to my surprise, when I watched ASAP yesterday, Angel did a sexy dance number as she celebrated her 23rd birthday on the said show. I didn't know she can dance and mind you, she dances so well. This girl is indeed talented. I'm not really a fan though but I just like her performance in LOBO. (*smiles) Below is her dance video.

Prom Night

Jeff and I had a movie date last weekend. The last movie that we saw on the big screen is I Am Legend. While it's fun to watch dvd movies in the comforts of your home, I think it's important to go out on a movie date once in a while with your other half. It was my choice to watch Prom Night 'coz I've seen the trailer and I love to get scared with the movies that I'm watching. Like what I've expected, I wasn't able to hold back from screaming while I was inside the moviehouse. To my relief, I was not the only one who screamed and got scared, the female teenagers who were seated a row before us screamed their hearts out too, lol!

Donna (Brittany Snow) has been looking forward to her senior prom for as long as she can remember, anticipating a night of magic surrounded by her best friends. But what she doesn't bargain for is a visitor from her dark past and a party that will end in murder. Donna and her friends find themselves fighting to escape the clutches of a deranged killer before the night of their dreams turns into their worst nightmare.

How Am I Today?

It's been a while since I last wrote something about my thoughts for the day. There seems to be a lot of trivial things going on with our lives lately but like I've said it's really of no significance or whatsoever. Not quite enough to write a blog about. It could also be that I'm too engrossed with the idea of catching blog opps online that my mind went dull for a personal blog. Anyway, speaking of blog opportunities, I always end up frustrated everytime I'll see a gray shaded opps thinking that I could have caught it if i were just right there sitting in front of the computer and hitting the F5 button. Arrggghhh!!! Now, I understand what Loannah means when she said there are some people who would prefer to just sit in front of the computer and totally forget about grocery shopping and doing something else besides blogging. Apparently, this hobby can be so addictive and frustrating at the same time. But I try really not to be so caught up with it though I must admit I really enjoyed it.

On a different note, I am in pain physically right now. The muscles in my thighs are sore and tender. I got this after a 45-minute Hip Hop Total Fat Burn dvd workout. I haven't exercised for quite a while that's why I feel so beaten up after yesterday's workout. Anyway, I'll take it easy next time. I may just have to skip today to allow my muscles to heal. Losing weight is never easy.

Meanwhile, I got excited with the prospect of moving out of Arkansas. Hubby thinks he'd like to work in a new environment and we're thinking of finding a place to move in Illinois. Well, staying in Arkansas and just moving to a different city is kinda like his best option but to me, I think if we would have to leave Ozark, I'd rather live somewhere in Illinois 'coz I wanna be closer to my sister. But of course, it depends on how fast he could find a job some place out of Ozark. Anyway, that would be it for today. I'll have to stop or else I'll start to talk rubbish here.

Movie Trip

Like most people, I find watching dvd movies highly entertaining. I shared the same interest in movies with my husband and we would watch 2 or more dvds every week. As Netflix members, we enjoy the convenience of renting our favorite movies without having to worry about driving to a video store in town or pay overdue penalties for videos not returned promptly. Anyway, over the last couple of months, I've watched movies with stories and characters that I find truly remarkable. I want to share three of them here. To all my friends who have not watched these yet, I'm gonna recommend them to you. I am more into the suspense thriller genre but the following movies fall into different categories as well. I included each of their synopsis to give you an idea of what these movies are all about.

Taken from a short story by Stephen King, it turns out to be a true cinematic masterpiece. Best movie ever made, I've never seen anything like it.

Upstanding banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is framed for a double murder in the 1940s and begins a life sentence at the Shawshank prison, where he's befriended by an older inmate named Red (Morgan Freeman). During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates for his upstanding moral code and unquenchable sense of hope. Co-stars Gil Bellows and Bob Gunton (who's memorable as the amoral prison warden).

This is a brilliant suspense thriller movie with a great surprising ending. It's full of twists and turns, and the plot keeps you guessing until the end.

When their little girl is abducted by a kidnapper (Pierce Brosnan) with an elaborate scheme, Neil (Gerard Butler) and Abby's (Maria Bello) perfect life is instantly turned upside down. With the clock ticking on their daughter's life, the couple is forced to comply with the whims of a madman. Directed by Mike Barker (A Good Woman, Best Laid Plans), this white-knuckled thriller will have you on the edge of your seat.

A very good crime thriller, mysterious story that kept you watching with bated breath. Look at the cast and I need not say anything more.

Two homicide detectives are on a desperate hunt for a serial killer (Kevin Spacey) whose crimes are based on the Seven Deadly Sins. The dark and haunting film takes viewers from the tortured remains of one victim to the next. The seasoned Det. Sommerset (Morgan Freeman) researches the Seven Deadly Sins in an effort to get inside the killer's mind, while his novice hotshot partner, Mills (Brad Pitt), scoffs at his efforts to unravel the case.

My Name is Kim Sam Soon

Regine Velasquez is set to star in the first ever Philippine adaptation of the Koreanovela, "My Name is Kim Sam Soon." It took a while to decide who's gonna be her love interests in this show because of the conflict of the schedules of the Kapuso stars. Finally, the latest update from PEP is that Regine will be paired with Wendell Ramos and Mark Anthony Fernandez for this project. The camera will start rolling on the 1st of May and this koreanovela will be directed by Dominic Zapata and Khryss Adalia.

Visayas hopefuls on Pinoy Idol

Pinoy Idol last night showed the auditions in the Visayas area. The number of pinoy hopefuls who went to the auditions was overwhelming. Undoubtedly, a lot of Filipinos are gifted in music. But there are some who just came there to try their luck and didn't mind the judges' negative comments. I was touched to see two blind young girls who came to audition. Jolina can't help herself from crying. One of them was given a nod from the judges to go to Manila to continue the idol journey. I spotted a familiar face among the Cebuano hopefuls. She used to be a neighbor back home. I remember when Jeff visited me that I introduced her to him 'coz we plan on getting her and her band to sing for us in our future PI wedding. Her name is Zandra Tan. And the good thing is she was one of the few wanna-bes who were given the chance to go to Manila for another grueling round of eliminations. I really hope she can make it to the Top 24 at least. Goodluck!!!

Charice Pempengco invades UK

I've seen this girl on tv when she won second best in the grand finals of a singing contest for kids on Abs-Cbn. After that, there seems to be no stopping for this young singer in showing off her remarkable singing prowess. She became an internet phenomenon when her videos were seen in youtube and was invited by the famous tv show host, Ellen de Generes to guest on her show. It was uphill from then on for Charice. After she wowed the audience on that US show, she invades the UK by guesting recently at The Paul O'Grady Show. The videos below show the said guesting. Wow, there's no turning back for this talented young singer. Latest update is that she guested in Oprah as well but the said show will be aired this coming May. She truly brings pride to our country.

My American Idol TOP 3

Every Idol fan has their bets as to who would make it to the Top 3. I would love Ramiele Malubay to be part of it but we all know that her stint in the competition had ended. I enjoyed the performances last night. I connected to most of the songs they sang. I made my own judging based from their overall performances so far and I came up with my Top 3. I really hope none of these three would be voted off tonight, or else, I'd come up with a different set of top 3 next week, lol! Among the three, it's only Syesha who experienced being in the bottom 3, nevertheless, I believe in this girl's vocal range especially after her performances for the past two weeks. Way to go, Idols!!!

Pinoy Idol hits the airwaves

Finally, the long wait is over! Pinoy Idol 2008 launched its pilot episode last April 5th. GMA 7 got the franchise to air the Philippine version of the Idol series. It is hosted by Raymond Gutierrez, with the three controversial judges, Ogie Alcasid, Wyngard Tracy and Jolina Magdangal. The winner will receive P1,000,000, a house and lot, a brand new car, a recording contract with Sony BMG Music Philippines, a television contract with GMA Network among other prizes.

What got me excited is the fact that FremantleMedia has given the rights for GMA-7 to telecast Pinoy Idol even in its US cable channels. That means filipinos in the US can also witness the born of the first Pinoy Idol. I don't have the talent in singing but I do appreciate good singers and I believe a lot of Filipinos are gifted in that aspect. It's the judges' task to sift through the multitude of hopefuls who went to the auditions and spot those that have left a lasting impression on them. In Pinoy Idol, we would all witness the rise of the new generation of singers as they conquer the stage that marks the grueling elimination rounds. I can't wait to see the finalists who made it to the Top 24.

Nobody Does It Better Than The Songbird

I appreciate real high-belting power musical performances and my ultimate favorite for this genre is no other than Ms. Regine Velasquez. I've seen several videos of the Songbird in Youtube and I thought of sharing with you two (2) of my favorite videos of her. I'm not sure what year is this but I think this is one of her best rendition of the song "Narito Ako".

An excerpt of the Asia's Songbird's 20th Anniversary Concert at the Araneta Coliseum in 2006. This is one of her superb performances during the 2-night concert (as per audience review), belting the high notes while squatting on stage. Nobody does it better than the Songbird.

Online Shopping

Another thing that I learn to try when I got here is to shop online. There's much public transportation to go to the malls and department stores in Cebu that you don't really think of getting stuff online. There are advantages and disadvantages of shopping online that's why I still prefer to go to the stores and see the item physically. I found out that here in the US, there are items and models that you can't see in the stores but you can order it online. Like last week, we did some updating with some of our small kitchen appliance but unfortunately, the kind that I like to buy weren't found in the stores. We tried Sears, JC Penney, Kohl's and Lowe's but it's either they don't display the specific color that I want or they are just out of stocks. So we tried searching it online on the same stores and I was surprised 'coz they have more items to choose from than what they carry in the stores.

These are the stuff that we ordered online and are delivered to our doorstep via UPS this weekend.

Seat Cushions $16.99...Driver's License $26.98...The Look On My Face...PRICELESS!!!

Nope, I am not selling anything here. The title was just Jeff's idea when I asked him to think me of a catchy phrase for my blog. I'm sure you've heard of something similar from a U.S. tv commercial. Anyway, let's get past the title's significance. The real purpose of the blog is to announce that after the painstaking practice to drive, I triumphantly passed the practical driving test on a first try and got my Arkansas Driver's License yesterday afternoon. I couldn't describe how ecstatic I was when the examiner told me that I passed. As what my title suggests, the look on my face was priceless.

Of course, it wasn't an easy journey. I had my share of frustrations while I was on the road to practice. I dreaded the first few weekends of practice. I can't make myself get excited with the idea of driving for one month. I took driving lessons in the Philippines two weeks before my flight here in the US but it didn't give me the confidence to drive at all. Like most of you here, I was a struggling wanna-be driver. I was even skeptical to take the test at first but hubby encouraged me to try. The night before I took the test, I couldn't get enough sleep. On the day of the test itself, I thought I was gonna explode with extreme nervousness. I was just consoled with the idea that I can still take the test again if ever I'll fail. But God is just so good, He let me pass. It's such a big boost to my confidence.

I couldn't have made it without my $16.99 seat cushion. As you probably know by now, I am so short that I find it hard to see above the road clearly. It was such a great help. Most important of all, I couldn't have made it without my ever supportive Jeff. He's my patient driving mentor and exceptionally loving husband. He never loses trust and confidence in me despite my obvious road blunders. The police officer who gave the test and the guy in the revenue office who made me pay $26.98 for my license, they took part in my driving experience on this foreign land. After that being said, the results was worth all the struggles. It was definitely PRICELESS!!!
