Melamine Scare

The melamine milk scare has been all over the news for weeks now. Both TV Patrol and 24 Oras have been giving updates everyday as to which products positively contained the dangerous melamine substance. As I've read more about it over the internet, I learned that Melamine is a highly toxic chemical used in plastics. It is used to make dairy products look more attractive, and the tainted products have killed at least four children and sickened more than 62,000 others in China.

That's pretty damn scary. The people in the Philippines right now are extra careful with their grocery purchases and they try to do away from China food products. I've talked to my family back home and they too stopped buying food, milk, dairy, chocolates and other confectionary products that are made in China. Some of these products might be cheap but if it does contain something poisonous, no price is worth the danger. I don't know if this is something that we have to worry about here in the U.S. But I am pretty cautious about it too 'coz most most dry goods in the department stores here are made in China but Jeff assured me that our milk and other dairy products are not imported from China. How about you? Are you starting to get conscious of the brands and manufacturer of the foods you eat?
