Who needs it?

Is colon cleansing necessary? What is its purpose? Colon cleansing has been believed to remove toxins from our gastrointestinal tract that may cause a variety of health problems. Although some critics say it’s generally unnecessary and at times may even be harmful. Partnering Up for The Cure

We were devastated when we learned that our grandmother was diagnosed of stage II breast cancer a couple of years back. She has lived all her life in Bohol but she chose to stay with us back in Cebu when she had her treatments. I saw with my two eyes how difficult it was for her dealing with the chemotherapy but with God’s help, she made it through the storm. In the first quarter of 2006, I, on the other hand, found out that I had a lump on my left breast. The doctor told me that I need to undergo a biopsy procedure to check if the lump is malignant or not. Oh boy, I broke into tears inside the clinic’s ladies room. We have breast cancer history in our family and I was just so afraid that my biopsy will turn out to be malignant. I had it removed through an out-patient minor surgery and I was thankful that it was just benign.

Medical researchers continue to look for the cure for breast cancer. Cryo-Cell recently announced research partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in researching the potential treatment of breast cancer using stem cells collected from menstrual blood. Stem cells have already been used in Treating Diseases, including numerous types of malignancies, anemia's, inherited metabolic disorders and deficiencies of the immune system. Cryo-Cell’s research partnership with the NIH is a major step towards discovering potential breast cancer therapy.

Best Care for our Aging Loved Ones

Growing old is a reality of life that we have to face. When our loved ones reach old age, they need us one way or another. How do we show that we care? Do we hire caregivers and nurses to be with them? Or do we take care of them personally? Or do we entrust them to a senior placement? Perhaps all of these are good options depending on the situation that we’re in. Back in my country where family and relatives tend to live so close with one another, having some family member take care of our aging loved ones seems to be the viable option. But in a fast-paced, competitive and huge country like the U.S., where everyone needs to work to make both ends meet, and where you sometimes need to travel at least 2 hours to visit a family member, entrusting your oldies to the hands of the professionals and experts in home care is the best option. This is not going to be an easy time for you and your family, so it’s rather important to make the right choices. You don’t want to settle for anything less since the welfare of your loved ones is at stake. You want to give them the best so study your options, start your senior living search.

Point and Click

If reading "The Most Dangerous Game" excited you, or if you’ve ever wondered if you had the stuff to be a super-stealthy-army sniper/ninja elite, then paintball is for you! I’ve never actually played it myself but my hubby does. And here’s what he has to say about it: "One of the funniest things I’ve ever done is playing paintball. It’s more exciting than super-nintendo, easier than a tour of duty in Iraq, and you can still be friends with all the people you shot at the end of the day. I remember my very first game of paintball, there were 3 of us against 3 of "them". "Them" being some co-workers that I didn’t know very well. We later became great friends. It started out as a boring morning when a friend came over and said, "get up and let’s go do something fun!" I wanted to tell him where he could put his fun, but then my curiosity got the better of me and I gave it a try. After a short drive out to the woods, and a brief instruction on what a paintball gun is, how to wear eye protection, and what people to shoot and not shoot, we were off and running. Not literally. I was really trying my best to look like a skinny tree in the middle of a bunch of real skinny trees. I wasn’t doing a great job of it, but nobody seemed to notice, as 2 of the 3 people on the other team walked within spitting distance. Blah...blah...blah..."

Anyway, you get the picture. My hubby can go on forever talking to me about his paintball experience. He sure sounds like he enjoyed it. And if you already know how much fun it is, then rush on over to Ultimate Paintball’s site. They sell top selling guns and they even have cool BT Paintball stuff to upgrade your current paintball gun, or get yourself a new one if you don’t have one yet.

Wife Carrying Contest in Finland

I find this funny and strange but it's actually a sport in Finland. I'm talking about the wife carrying contest in Finland where the prize is the wife's weight in beer.

Despite the humorous aspect of this sport, it actually has deep roots in Finland history. It's supposedly reminiscent of a past in which men courted women by running to their village, picking them up, and carrying them off. The festival originated in the 19th century when it was common practice in Finland to steal women from neighbouring villages.

The objective of the contest is for the male to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time. The track has two dry obstacles and a water obstacle, about one meter deep. The wife to be carried may be his own, the neighbour’s or he can choose any woman over 17 to be the symbolic wife for the event. Several carrying styles may be used like piggyback, fireman's carry (over the shoulder), or Estonian-style (the wife hangs upside-down with her legs around the husband's shoulders, holding onto his waist). Cool, eh!

Manny Pacquiao triumphs once again

Manny "The Pacman" Pacquiao makes the Filipinos all over the world proud once again as he won the fight against the Mexican fighter "Dangerous" David Diaz last Saturday, June 28th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The undisputable 9th round KO victory of Pacquiao over Diaz made him the new WBC Lightweight Champion. I've watched the fight on an internet full streaming video and I feel so proud of his victory. I've seen the news on tv which showed thousands of Filipinos united all over the world hoping for Pacquiao to win. This may sound funny but it's been reported that there has been no recorded criminal incident from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the day of the fight. Apparently, even criminals stayed glued to radio and television sets to watch the big event. Anyway, big congratulations to Manny Pacquiao for being the 1st Asian boxing champion to win 4 world titles in 4 separate weight divisions.

Our New Treadmill

I am so excited about our newly-bought treadmill. After so many weeks of trying to find out which equipment to buy best, we decided to get a SOLE F-85 treadmill. Of course, we considered the price and the features. We don't want to spend like crazy on an exercise equipment however, we also want to have a durable one that we can run on. I think we made a great purchase on this one.

We like the fact that it is an easy-assist folding treadmill since right now we just have a limited space in our house. The motor is 3.5 HP Continuous Duty (DC Type) which is what you should be looking for if you want a durable and whisper drive (low noise) motor. The warranty for its frame, deck and motor is Lifetime while its electronics and wear items is 5 years. The console features are exactly what we were looking for -- up to 15% maximum incline, 0.05--12 mph speed, built-in cooling fans, built-in speakers which allow you to hook up any MP3 player or iPod for easy listening, wireless chest strap heart rate control transmitter which helps you monitor your pulse. The information that is displayed at all times include Speed, Incline, Time, Distance Traveled, Calories, Pulse and Pace. This machine can handle users up to 400 lbs. which is good if you don't only want to walk but jog as well. It has also a 20X60 running surface which is so important since Jeff has very long strides.

It's time to get in those running shoes and start shedding off some pounds. For your treadmill needs, check out this link. This is NOT a paid post.

Stability Ball

A month ago, while we were buying stuff at Walmart, a mass display of Cory Everson's Pilates Set worth 20 bucks held my interest. This includes (2) 2 lb. toning balls, workout DVD, exercise wall chart, light resistance latex band and of course, the 65 cm. anti-burst stability ball. We bought it but after using it twice, I became lazy and forgot about it. It wasn't until this afternoon that I notice it again, resting idly in the corner of the computer room. I thought I should start using it again, afterall, there's a lot of benefits that this ball has to offer. It can improve muscle strength and endurance in all of the major muscle groups. Training with the ball can improve muscle tone, increase muscle endurance and strength, restore or improve flexibility, enhance spinal stability, complement one's resistance, help lose weight, and lastly, improve your balance, posture and coordination. The ball is also ideal for stretching and offers additional options to traditional static stretching. Traditional stretching usually requires you to stretch on the floor and it can be difficult to move into and out of stretching positions.
