Maria Sharapova: Tennis Princess

Anyone would have thought that this girl is a Hollywood star. With the face and body like hers, who would have thought that she's one of the best female tennis player in this generation. Sharapova has won two Grand Slam singles titles. Highest-paid female athlete in 2006, Maria Sharapova is currently the reigning U.S. Open champion, having defeated Justine Henin in the final of the 2006 U.S. Open. Two years earlier, she defeated Serena Williams in the final at Wimbledon. But like so many other people, this athlete made a lot of sacrifices just to make her dreams come true.

Maria Yuryevna Sharapova was born on April 19, 1987 in Nyagan, a town in the Siberian region of Russia. This girl has shown the talents in the world of tennis at an early age of 4. From what seemed to be just a childish game of a 4-yr. old kid turned to be a passion. Maria's enormous talent was best developed when her father, Yuri took her to the world-famous Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida at the age of 7. It was again never easy for the family to do that since none of them knows how to speak English at the time. Her parents had their share of sacrifices themselves as Maria's mother, Yelena couldn't move with them to the US because of visa restrictions and her dad had to take odd jobs. Two years later, her mother was finally able to come to Florida and be reunited with her daughter and husband. From that moment, she took it upon herself to educate Maria, who has never been in a formal school in her life.

At present, she is putting an end to her high school education through Keystone High, an online high school. She does photo shoots once in a while but her priority is tennis. Besides, she doesn’t need the money, as she has very lucrative endorsement deals with Nike, NEC and Prince. Sharapova currently resides in Bradenton, Florida.
